Recreation Report
Office Report prepared by Esther Hill, Administrator
Kensington Community Council Board Meeting
January 8, 2007
Kensington After School Enrichment Program:
Due to an unprecedented demand for kindergarten classes, we’ve added
another carpentry class, tennis class, and critter adventure class, and
we’ve added an extra teacher to games and sports so we can double the
class size. We now have 45 classes for winter session with 334 filled
seats. Winter session began today and runs through March 23.
Holiday Program:
The holiday performance co-sponsored with the Kensington Library was a
big success. The library staff handed out over 100 free tickets before
the event, although I believe actual attendance may have been closer to
90.
Adult Programs:
We’ll offer a number of classes this spring. Nick Lawrence is returning
for swing dance lessons on March 2, 9, 16, and 23. Carolyn Holm, our
KASEP art teacher, will offer “Art for the Closet Artist” for adults who
want to try their hands at art. This will include an art of collage
class on Feb. 26 and March 5, and an art of drawing class on March 19
and 26. Our salsa teacher is currently out of the country, but I’m
hoping to offer another series of salsa dance classes in February and/or
March. Due to low enrollment on Thursdays, the morning yoga class has
been dropped, but we may extend the Tuesday class an additional 15
minutes. We continue to offer yoga on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Summer Camp:
Over the holiday break, Jessica Smith met with our new camp director,
Kevan Warren, to begin planning for summer. In January, we’ll work on
scheduling field trips and specialty teachers so we’ll be ready to mail
brochures and applications out in mid-February. Summer camp will begin
on Monday, June 18, and will run through Friday, August 24.
Other Administrative:
Liz Ruhland, the Kensington librarian, is ordering new letters and
tracks for the signboard by the library.
I’ll prepare tax forms in January for all our independent contractors
paid in 2006.
